Social Worker License Renewal and Continuing Education

All social work licenses in Maine have a validity period of two years. Licenses will have to be renewed before the expiration date to continue practicing. All conditional licenses can only be renewed once.

The renewal fee is $70 for each license. Applying for renewal after the expiration of your license attracts an additional fee of $50. Social workers who submit their renewal application more than 90 days after the expiration of their license will be subjected to meeting all the requirements of a new applicant, including the application fees.

Apply for license renewal here.

A requirement for renewal is 25 hours of Continuing Education (CE) according to the board rules. Check the CE handbook for more details.

License Verification

Online license verification is available in the Office of Professional and Occupational Regulation (OPOR)’s database. The verification is available free of charge. Paper license verification is no longer issued.
