Maine Licensed Master Social Worker, Conditional Clinical (MC) Licensure Process

This is a step toward the clinical aspect of social work. If you wish to begin your clinical consultation towards obtaining a Licensed Clinical Social Worker(LCSW) license, this is the route. You’ll need to meet the following requirements to qualify.

Educational Requirement

To qualify for MC licensure, you must have earned a  Master of Social Works(MSW) degree from a Council of Social Works Education (CSWE) accredited program.

Examination Requirement

Applicants for MC licensure must pass the Association of Social Work Boards qualifying master’s exam.  First complete the application to Maine’s board and then register with ASWB online.

To register, visit the ASWB website and click on “Register for the Exam”. Fill out the form correctly and pay a fee of $230 for the registration. All payments are made via Visa, Mastercard, or Discover.

You will be sent an Authorization To Test (ATT). Follow the instructions and schedule your exam. The board will receive your scores after the exam.

Applying for Licensure as a Master Social Worker, Conditional (Clinical)

All application materials can either be submitted by mail or hand.

  • Fill out the application form.
  • Pay the $70 required for the application and the $21 required for a criminal history check.
  • Contact the institution you graduated from, requesting that they sent an official transcript directly to the board.
  • Submit a completed clinical concentration worksheet.
  • Register for the ASWB qualifying master’s exam. Your score will be sent to the board.

If you meet all the requirements and complete due processes, a license will be mailed to you.
