Process of Licensure
In South Dakota, you need at least an associate’s degree to call yourself a social worker. However, the services you can provide are limited on this level. If you want to help in a greater capacity, you can earn a higher degree and level of licensure. A master’s degree (MSW) will enable you to provide clinical and non-clinical services without supervision, depending on the license.
When applying, it’s important to keep in mind that the Board meets every 90 days. Therefore, applications should be submitted at least 30 days prior to the next meeting so it’s reviewed within that time frame. If not, you will have to wait for the next meeting.
