Psychotherapy “R” Privilege Overview
Social workers with LCSW licenses are recognized in New York as reimbursable psychotherapists. That means anyone who receives mental health services from an LCSW must be reimbursed by their insurance provider according to the limitations and regulations of the insurance law. The “R” is added to the practitioner’s license number once they have met the requirements for supervised experience providing psychotherapy.
