Applicants must be undergraduates in any American or Canadian college or university, or by anyone not enrolled as graduate students who have received the degree of A.B., or its equivalent, within the past year.
Selection will be based on the best student essay on a subject related to the life or works of Dante Alighieri. The committee may, at its discretion, split the award between two contestants (each to receive one half of the prize), or it may make no award.
